Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
SC Individualized dosage. Type 2 DM Initially 6 U bd or 12 U once daily at dinner then switch to bd dosing when 30 U is reached, can be intensified to tds.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Administer immediately before or soon after a meal.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to insulin aspart.
Special Precautions
Not to be inj IV & avoid IM administration. Not to be used in insulin infusion pumps. Diabetic ketoacidosis; hyper- & hypoglycaemia; inj site reactions; lipodystrophy & cutaneous amyloidosis; concomitant illness, infections & feverish conditions; diseases affecting adrenal, pituitary or thyroid gland. May cause formation of insulin Ab. Avoid accidental mix-ups w/ other insulin prep. Transferring to another type or brand of insulin. Combination w/ thiazolidinediones in CHF patients. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Renal & hepatic impairment. Intensified blood glucose control & monitoring during pregnancy. Dosage adjustment during lactation. Childn <6 yr. Elderly >75 yr.
Drug Interactions
Reduced insulin requirement w/ oral antidiabetics, GLP-1 receptor agonists, MAOIs, β-blockers, ACE inhibitors, salicylates, anabolic steroids, sulphonamides. Increased insulin requirement w/ OCs, thiazides, glucocorticoids, thyroid hormones, sympathomimetics, growth hormone, danazol. Masked hypoglycaemia symptoms by β-blockers. Increased or decreased insulin requirement w/ octreotide/lanreotide. Intensified or reduced hypoglycaemic effect by alcohol.
